Optical Phenomena

Crepuscular Rays

Light from the sun is scattered by the earth's atmosphere, resulting in the blue color of the sky. Crepsucular rays occur when the sunlight is intermittently obstructed by clouds, virtually casting a series of shadows.

Although the rays appear to converge at the sun, they are actually parallel. The convergence is a matter of perspective, in the same way that parallel train tracks appear to converge at the horizon.
