Silver Lining

When sunlight is diffracted by large water droplets along the edges of a thick cloud, a "silver lining" can be seen.

In the three images below the lining looks more golden than silver because the the sun was very low in the sky when the images were taken.

In the image above the sun was higher in the sky, so the bright lining of the clouds appears to be silvery. Faint crepuscular rays can also be seen.
