VISIBILITY TAPE ARCHIVING
When a 9-track tape is full, it will automatically rewind. A message will come up on the BOSS console in the control room giving the end time of the tape. This time is recorded in the current observing log (hit yellow bart button to get dialog box for Visibility Tape info).

When tape is finished rewinding, remove tape from unit and take off write ring.
Insert 9-track tape in 9-track machine.
Put appropriately numbered DAT tape in DAT machine (same number as 9-track tape).
From a Banshee window type
> duplicate
This process will take about 15 minutes. Tape will automatically eject when completed.

Clean tape unit that tape was removed from: clean heads with alcohol on swab; clean tape path and glass panels with towelette.
Load new tape: put tape on spindle, push spindle down to lock, close tape unit door; hit buttons RESET, LOAD/REWIND, ONLINE (in that order).
Make sure that tape loads correctly!

When the tape has finished duplication, the newly copied data on the DAT tape must be checked.
To do this, open the OPSED window and type
> OPTAPE tape=##### (where ##### is the number of the tape that was duplicated)
(or type ctrl+p to get last entry and change number)

When the tape checking operation is finished (about 15 minutes), the DAT tape will automatically eject, and a report will print out on the small printer in the operator's area. This report will give the start and finish time of the tape. These times are put on both the label on the original 9-track tape and on the insert of the DAT tape.
The report and the DAT tape are taken to the AOC at the end of your shift. The 9-track tape is hung in the appropriate place in the tape rack.
