09/11/05 Image Notes:

Now I'm back to the story of how I learned to make fairly decent looking tri-color images from just a red and blue image. If you've been following the story of NGC 7000, you will know that I first tried creating a pseudo-green layer to combine with the DSS2 blue and red images; it looked awful. So I did some searching on Google, and found an incredibly helpful article about image processing, "Color Presentation of Astronomical Images". Stated briefly, one can make a pseudo tri-color image by making the red layer orange and the blue layer cyan, which is tantamount to adding a bit of green to each image and you end up with what almost looks like an RGB image. I think the results are much better than those I got with creating a psuedo-green channel and mixing the three. I think I can stand some refinement of the technique, but it was a very positive breakthrough for me today after having yesterday be a day full of ugly images!
